The murder of the young Sahrawi Osama Bousroual by a direct gunshot to the head by Moroccan “auxiliary forces” is a horrific crime that exposes the true nature of Morocco’s occupation policies in Western Sahara. This heinous act is not an isolated incident; it is part of a systematic policy aimed at eliminating Sahrawi youth, orchestrated by a political and security apparatus under the leadership of the Alaouite dynasty.

Details of the Crime: On-the-Spot Execution

Osama Bousroual, born on August 1, 2008, was killed in cold blood in the Rakbat Al-Jarf area, south of Tarfaya, by a direct headshot fired by members of the Moroccan military. This crime demonstrates the calculated nature of the violence employed by Moroccan authorities to intimidate the Sahrawi community. What makes the incident even more appalling is the Moroccan authorities’ refusal to hand over Osama’s body to his family, an act intended to suppress evidence and prevent any independent investigation into the incident.

The Alaouite Dynasty’s Role in Sustaining Oppression

The Alaouite dynasty, which has maintained an iron grip on power in Morocco for centuries, bears direct responsibility for these atrocities. Its history is riddled with bloodshed, from suppressing dissent within Morocco to violating human rights in Western Sahara. Under their rule, systematic repression has become an entrenched tool of control in occupied territories. These policies include extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detentions, torture in prisons, and restrictions on free expression.

Systematic Targeting of Sahrawi Youth

The killing of Osama Bousroual is not an isolated incident. Similar atrocities, such as the death of Sahrawi detainee Ammar Bahiya Hassan in Lakhal prison in occupied Laayoune, highlight a deliberate pattern of targeting Sahrawi youth. These acts aim to undermine the morale of the Sahrawi people and dismantle their social cohesion, targeting the younger generation that spearheads their struggle for self-determination.

A Call for International Investigation

The continuation of these atrocities places an urgent moral and legal obligation on the international community to intervene. Independent international investigations must be initiated to hold the Moroccan regime and the Alaouite dynasty accountable for the extrajudicial killings and repression of Sahrawi citizens.

The murder of Osama Bousroual reflects the brutality of Moroccan occupation policies in Western Sahara, spearheaded by the Alaouite dynasty. This crime is not just an affront to human rights but also an attack on the hope of the Sahrawi people for freedom and independence. The struggle will persist, and the international community must act decisively to end these repressive practices and ensure accountability for those responsible.
