The offices of the Danish organization “Global Action” in Copenhagen were targeted on the night of January 12, 2025, in a firebomb attack believed to be aimed at intimidating the organization due to its support for the Sahrawi people’s struggle for self-determination.
The attackers threw Molotov cocktails at the building, causing significant material damage, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. They also left graffiti on the building’s walls praising Morocco and opposing the organization’s solidarity with the Western Sahara cause.
This attack is part of an escalating campaign of hatred and intimidation targeting Sahrawi activists and their supporters worldwide. In the occupied territories of Western Sahara, Moroccan authorities have intensified their crackdown on activists and human rights defenders demanding the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination in recent weeks.
This assault is a troubling reminder of the challenges faced by international and human rights organizations supporting the rights of oppressed peoples. It underscores the urgent need to strengthen efforts to protect activists and institutions working in this field.
