On Saturday, September 27, 2025, the city of occupied Laayoune witnessed a peaceful yet powerful demonstration organized by a group of steadfast Sahrawi women activists, who once again embodied the spirit of loyalty to the national cause. The event was held in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Sahrawi national unity, a historic milestone that consolidated the Sahrawi struggle against the Moroccan occupation.

The demonstration, which took place in the resilient neighborhood of Al-Wifaq, was marked by chants demanding the freedom of Sahrawi civilian prisoners in Moroccan jails and saluting the steadfastness of the fighters of the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army. Thousands of leaflets adorned with the national flag were distributed, sending a clear message of the Sahrawi people’s unshakable attachment to their identity and sovereignty.

The activists reaffirmed the leadership of the Polisario Front as the sole and legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people, emphasizing unity and solidarity as essential tools to confront the challenges imposed by the brutal Moroccan occupation that has persisted for five decades.

This demonstration was not merely symbolic, but rather a renewed declaration of the Sahrawi people’s determination to achieve freedom and self-determination, despite the harsh repression, siege, and media blackout systematically enforced by the Moroccan occupier. It stands as undeniable proof that the will of the Sahrawi people is stronger than chains, and that their path to liberation is irreversible.

While the occupier strives to erase national identity through colonial policies, the Sahrawi people once again demonstrate their unwavering commitment to their legitimate cause, making it clear that they will never renounce their right to freedom and independence, no matter how long the occupation lasts. Fifty years of resilience have only strengthened the Sahrawi conviction in the justice of their struggle, and their message to the world today is unmistakable: Self-determination is not a choice—it is a sacred right that cannot be erased by time or force.
