Laayoune, Occupied Western Sahara – September 28, 202
Sahrawi human rights activist Laroussi Takelbut was violently assaulted by Moroccan police forces last Friday as he attempted to attend a meeting of the Sahrawi Human Rights Coordination Mechanism.
In a video statement to Equipe Media, Takelbut explained that a group of police officers intercepted him on his way to the gathering, using excessive force to prevent him from reaching the location. He further reported that some of the assailants are known for their involvement in serious human rights violations against Sahrawi civilians.
Observers note that this latest attack reflects a broader policy of systematic repression aimed at silencing Sahrawi activists and obstructing any peaceful human rights work in the occupied territories.
Despite enduring physical abuse and intimidation, Takelbut emphasized that such practices will not deter him from continuing his struggle in defense of the Sahrawi people’s rights to freedom and dignity.
